Baby Shower Invitation Wording and Message Examples

Copy-ready wording for every kind of shower, including the one etiquette flip that surprises hosts: the registry belongs on the invitation.

A baby shower invitation needs five essentials: the guest of honor, the date and time, the location, who is organizing, and an RSVP deadline with a way to reply. Everything else, from a theme note to registry details, is optional and depends on the shower. This guide collects copy-ready wording for every kind of shower, with a fill-in-the-blank template up top and examples for boy, girl, gender-neutral, twins, co-ed, surprise, brunch, sprinkle, sip and see, diaper party, adoption, and virtual celebrations. Any of them drops straight onto an artist-designed Greenvelope baby shower invitation.

What to Include on a Baby Shower Invitation

Five details are essential; the rest are optional additions that depend on the shower.

Essential:

  • Guest of honor: "A baby shower honoring Maren" or "Showering Elena and Marcus." Include the baby's expected arrival season or the word "soon" only if the parents are sharing it.
  • Date and time with the day of the week: An end time helps guests plan.
  • Location: Venue and full address, or joining instructions for a virtual shower.
  • Organizer: A "hosted by" line tells guests who is planning the day and who to contact with questions.
  • RSVP deadline and method: A specific date one to two weeks before the shower, with a reply link, phone number, or email so guests know how to answer. Two weeks is a common default.

Optional:

  • Theme or dress note: "Garden party, florals encouraged," or nothing at all.
  • Registry or gift note: Welcome when the family has a registry and wants to share it; the next section covers the wording.

Fill-in-the-Blank Baby Shower Invitation Template

Start from this structure and swap in your details; every example in this guide follows it.

[Opening line, such as "Please join us for a baby shower honoring"]
[Guest of Honor]
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
[Venue Name], [Street Address, City]
Hosted by [Organizer's Name]
RSVP by [RSVP Date] at [reply link, phone number, or email]
[Registry, theme, or gift note]

The last line is optional; leave it off if there is nothing to add. Swap in your own names and venues as well as the bracketed details, since the sample names and venues in the examples below are stand-ins too. On a digital invitation, several of these details have fields of their own rather than lines on the card: on Greenvelope, the registry, a virtual meeting link, and the RSVP form with its deadline all attach to the invitation details. Put each detail on the card or in its matching field, whichever your format expects.

Registry, Diaper Raffle, and Gift Note Wording (All Optional)

Registry information is welcome on a baby shower invitation when the family has a registry and wants to share it, and leaving it off is not rude; some families prefer no registry, or share it only when guests ask. If you include it, one line is enough. On a digital invitation, the registry belongs in the invitation details rather than only in the card wording: typing "Registered at [store]" is just text, while adding the registry in the details gives guests a working link. Our guide to how to include a registry link on a baby shower invitation covers the placement.

Simple registry line:

"Maren is registered at [store] and [store]."

Diaper raffle (keep it clearly optional, and keep the prize a surprise):

"If you'd like to join the diaper raffle, bring a pack of diapers, any size, for a chance to win a prize."

Books instead of cards:

"In place of a card, you are welcome to bring a book for Baby's first library. A note inside the cover will be read for years."

No gifts:

"No gifts, please; your company is the celebration."

Whose Name Goes on a Baby Shower Invitation?

Customarily, a friend, relative, or colleague organizes the shower, and a "hosted by" line names them so guests know who is planning the day and who to contact with questions. Parents hosting their own celebration is also fine by modern etiquette, as our baby shower etiquette guide covers; the host line simply identifies the organizer, whoever that is. As a design choice, the guest of honor's name usually reads best largest and first, "A shower honoring Maren," and if both parents are being celebrated, name them both: "Showering Elena and Marcus."

Boy, Girl, and Gender-Neutral Baby Shower Invitation Wording

The template stays the same whether the parents are sharing the baby's sex or keeping it a surprise; what changes is a line or two of flavor at the top and the design it sits on. Mix traditional themes with simple celebratory language as the parents prefer.

[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
The Greenhouse at Maple Farm, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by both grandmothers-to-be
Registry linked in the details. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Gender-neutral wording suits parents keeping the sex a surprise and parents who prefer the celebration not hinge on it. Pronouns are fine where they fit; lean on "little one," "baby," and arrival imagery as much as feels natural. Parents announcing the sex at a party of its own can use our gender reveal invitation wording guide.

Twin Baby Shower Invitation Wording

Twin baby shower wording follows the same template: say plainly that two babies are on the way, and let the doubling set the tone.

Double trouble is on the way!
Please join us for a baby shower honoring Renata and her twins-to-be
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
The Solarium at Birchwood, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by her sister, Elise

The Garden Room at Marlowe House, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by her mother and aunt
Registered at [store]. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Co-Ed and Couples Baby Shower Invitation Wording

Co-ed describes the guest list's makeup, not its size: a co-ed baby shower, sometimes called a couples shower, welcomes guests of every gender, while the host still decides exactly who is invited. Three separate decisions shape the wording: who is named on each invitation, whether a named guest may bring an additional guest, and whether children are invited. Name the parent or parents being celebrated according to the plan, and add a clarifying line only where guests might otherwise guess wrong; the named recipients and the RSVP settings do the rest.

Named adults only:

A co-ed baby shower honoring [Parent's Name] and [Parent's Name]
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
[Venue Name], [Street Address, City]
Hosted by [Host's Name]
An adults-only celebration; we cannot wait to toast with you.
Registered at [store]. Please reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Each named guest may bring one additional guest:

Join us for a co-ed baby shower celebrating [Parent's Name]
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
[Venue Name], [Street Address, City]
Hosted by [Host's Name] and [Host's Name]
Your invitation includes you and one guest; please add their name when you reply.
Registry linked in the details. Kindly reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Named families, children included:

A family baby shower for [Parent's Name] and [Parent's Name]
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
[Venue Name], [Street Address, City]
Hosted by [Host's Name]
This invitation includes everyone named on it, kids included; please reply for each name so every seat is counted.
Registered at [store]. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Set up the guest list to match the wording: add named couples and families as grouped contacts who share one invitation and reply for each named member (see Group Couples and Families Together), use the plus-one allowance only when a guest may bring someone who is not named, and set that allowance to zero when only named guests are invited (see Update Plus 1 Policy).

Surprise Baby Shower Invitation Wording

A surprise shower invitation carries an extra logistics load: announce the surprise up top, give guests an arrival time ahead of the guest of honor's, name a contact for questions, and ask everyone to keep the secret. Before sending, confirm the mailing goes only to the guest list and that reply notifications reach the organizer rather than the parent-to-be.

Shhh! It's a surprise!
A surprise baby shower for Maya
[Day], [Date]. Guests arrive by [Guest Arrival Time]; Maya arrives (unknowingly) at [Honoree Arrival Time].
The Alcove at Juniper & Rye, [Street Address, City]
Questions? Text Dana, your host and secret-keeper-in-chief, at [Phone Number].
Please keep the secret and reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Baby Shower Brunch Invitation Wording

A brunch shower invitation should say a meal is served so guests plan around it rather than eating first. Name the meal, keep the tone sunny, and the rest of the template stays the same.

Bagels, blooms, and a baby on the way!
A baby shower brunch for Tessa
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
The Sunroom at Magnolia House, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by Wren and Ada
Mimosas and quiche served. Registered at [store]. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Baby Sprinkle Wording for a Second (or Third) Baby

A sprinkle is a lighter shower for a second or third baby: usually smaller, shorter, and centered on celebration. Many families already have some of what they need, so the gift note is often softened or dropped; whichever way, say what you would like plainly.

A little sprinkle for Baby number two!
Join us to celebrate Priya and the newest Shah
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
Wildflower Cafe, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by her book club
No registry this time; diapers and picture books welcome if you'd like to bring something.
Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

One more to love.
A sprinkle for Tanya as she welcomes baby number three
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
Backyard at the Whitfield home, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by the Whitfields
No gifts, please; your company is the celebration.
Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Sip and See Invitation Wording

A sip and see happens after the baby arrives: guests drop in for a drink and a first hello rather than games and gifts. Parents often host it themselves, though a friend or relative can organize one too; either way, identify the organizer. Many families offer a come-and-go window instead of a fixed start time, and gifts are usually downplayed, since the baby is the main event.

Baby's here. Come say hi!
A sip and see welcoming Juniper Mae
[Day], [Date], drop by anytime between [Start Time] and [End Time]
The Calloway home, [Street Address, City]
With love from the new parents, Casey and Morgan Calloway
No gifts, please; your company is the celebration. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Sip, see, and meet our newest.
Please stop by to meet Theodore James
[Day], [Date], drop in between [Start Time] and [End Time]
The Avery home, [Street Address, City]
With love from the new parents, Alma and Reid
Pastries and mimosas served. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Diaper Party Invitation Wording

A diaper party is a casual shower, often thrown for a dad-to-be, where guests bring a pack of diapers instead of registry gifts, usually alongside food, drinks, or a game. Make the ask plain and clearly optional, and keep the tone easy.

Diapers and dogs (the grilled kind).
A diaper party for Marcus
[Day], [Date] at [Start Time]
Backyard at Theo's, [Street Address, City]
If you can, bring a pack of diapers, any size; hot dogs, burgers, and the game are covered.
Text Theo at [Phone Number] or reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Help us stock the changing table.
A diaper party honoring Dev
[Day], [Date] at [Start Time]
Barrel & Rye back patio, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by his brothers. Bring a box of diapers if you'd like; the first round is on us.
Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

Adoption Shower Invitation Wording Examples

For an adoption celebration, follow the family's lead on wording, timing, and gifts; some families want a welcome party right away, others prefer to wait until everyone has settled in, and gift preferences vary with the child's age and story. The wording centers the welcome rather than a due date and keeps the standard template.

A wonderful welcome is underway!
Join us to celebrate Erin and Tom as they welcome their son home.
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
The Fireside Room at Cedar House, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by the Walsh family
Registry linked in the details. Reply at the RSVP link by [RSVP Date].

For an older child, name the welcome, skip the nursery imagery, and let the family's gift guidance set the gift line:

Welcome home, Sofia!
An adoption shower celebrating Miriam, Luis, and their daughter
[Day], [Date], [Start Time] to [End Time]
The Maple Room at Foxglove Hall, [Street Address, City]
Hosted by the Delgado cousins
Gift cards welcome if you'd like to bring something; registry linked in the details.

Virtual Baby Shower Wording

Virtual showers swap the address for joining instructions. On Greenvelope, add the meeting link as a virtual location in the invitation details, where guests see it with the invitation, and name the time zone, which matters most when guests are scattered. If the family is sharing a registry, keep that line too, since guests may be shipping gifts. Our virtual baby shower invitation wording guide has a full set of examples.

Near or far, come celebrate!
A virtual shower for Noor

Hosted by Farrah and Dee
Join using the link in the invitation details.

When to Send Baby Shower Invitations

For a shower held before the baby's arrival, send invitations 4 to 6 weeks ahead; the shower itself usually lands 1 to 2 months before the due date, and guests traveling in deserve the longer end of the window. A reply deadline one to two weeks before the shower, with two weeks as a common default, gives the host time to plan food and favors. Adoption celebrations and sip and sees follow the family's chosen timing instead. For other events' windows, see the invitation timing guide.

Putting Your Wording on an Invitation

Once the wording is set, put it on an invitation and send it. On Greenvelope, your lines go onto an artist-designed card from the baby shower invitation collection (or the tea party invitation designs for a tea-themed shower), the registry and any meeting link sit in the invitation details, and the built-in RSVP form collects replies against the deadline you set. Hosts can also schedule RSVP reminder emails for guests who have not replied, and add an RSVP survey question requesting mailing addresses for thank-you notes. Our guides to how to send baby shower invitations online and how to collect RSVPs for a baby shower online walk through the send and the replies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a baby shower invitation say?

A baby shower invitation needs the guest of honor, the date and time with the day of the week, the location or joining instructions, who is organizing it, and an RSVP deadline with a way to reply. A theme or dress note, registry details, and gift notes like a diaper raffle are optional additions that depend on the shower.

Do you put registry information on a baby shower invitation?

Registry information is welcome on a baby shower invitation when the family has a registry and wants to share it, and one line is enough: "Registered at [store]." Leaving it off is not rude; some families prefer no registry or share it only when guests ask. On a digital invitation, add the registry in the invitation details so it works as a link.

Whose name goes on a baby shower invitation?

The guest of honor's name usually appears most prominently, and a "hosted by" line names the organizer and tells guests who to contact. A friend or relative customarily organizes the shower, and parents hosting their own celebration is also fine by modern etiquette. If both parents are being celebrated, name them both.

When should you send baby shower invitations?

For a shower held before the baby's arrival, send invitations 4 to 6 weeks ahead; the shower itself usually falls 1 to 2 months before the due date. Use the longer end of the window when guests will travel, and set the RSVP deadline one to two weeks before the shower, with two weeks as a common default, so the host can plan food and favors.

How do you word a co-ed baby shower invitation?

A co-ed baby shower welcomes guests of any gender; it does not automatically include partners or children. Name the parent or parents being celebrated, and add clarification about additional guests or children only when needed. For example, use "Adults only, please" or "Your invitation includes you and one guest" when applicable. Match the named recipients and RSVP settings to the invitation.

Can you have a baby shower for a second baby?

Yes. A shower for a second or third baby is often called a sprinkle: a smaller, lighter celebration. Set the gift expectation plainly in the wording, whether that is a registry line or "No gifts, please; your company is the celebration," and keep the rest of the template the same: date and time, location, host, and RSVP deadline.

How do you word a surprise baby shower invitation?

State the surprise at the top with a line like "Shhh! It's a surprise!", give guests an arrival time ahead of the guest of honor's, name a contact for questions, and ask guests to keep the secret when they reply. Send the invitation only to the guest list, and check that reply notifications reach the organizer rather than the parent-to-be before sending.

How do you word an adoption shower invitation?

Follow the family's lead on wording, timing, and gifts. Center the welcome rather than a due date, with a line like "Join us to celebrate Erin and Tom as they welcome their son home," and keep the standard details: host line, date and time, location, and RSVP deadline. The format works for a child of any age; ask the family what gifts, if any, fit.
